Salon 2014 - Dyeing and Surface Design

At the end of May I was honoured to be asked to teach at our Provincial Quilt show Salon 2014.  I  taught a beginners dyeing course the first day and a surface design class the next day.  The art room at the Collège André Grassett is a lovely bright room with lots of sinks.  Perfect for my needs!

My goal when teaching these classes is to show how easy it is to dye, and how easy it is to use items from around the house to add depth and dimension to cloth.   I was fortunate to have on the second day students who had done the previous day's dyeing.  Below are some photos of the wonderful colours that they produced.

And below are some of the tools for the surface design course.
The class was great - happy to experiment and that always enriches my experience as a teacher!

Dye Class Salon 2010

Here are some photos of my dyeing class at the Salon, the Quebec Provincial Quilt show, which by the way, is wonderful. A terrific selection of quilts and what great workmanship we have here.

The dyeing class was fun, and I love introducing people to the subject. We have a busy day doing a parfait with 3 colours, a range of 2 primaries, some bucket dyeing with scrunched, pleated and folded fabric, and then some painting with leftover dyes. Oh, and putting a pair of socks in the last remains of the day in the bottle.

The Collège Andre Grasset has a sunny art room with lots of sinks and washable vinyl floor!

And tomorrow we'll do surface design.
